Nesting and Breeding Success of Red-Whiskered Bulbul, Pycnonotus jocosus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, India

A B S T R A C T
The observation of nesting and breeding successofthe red-whiskered bulbul, Pycnonotus jocosus (Linnaeus, 1758) wasmade locallyin Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, India.A pair of red-whiskered bulbul built a cup-shaped nest on potted holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) plant at a height of 96 cm from the ground. The femalebulbul laid 3 whitish with dark brown splotchedeggs in three consecutive days, which were incubated by both the parents. All the hatchlings were hatched together on the same day (Synchrony). The sum of incubation period and nestling period was about 23 days.Both the sexes showed parental roles in incubation and nestling periods. The study was carried out in a couple of months (April-May, 2021), which provides vital information to strengthen the available data about nesting success of the red-whiskered bulbul in Uttar Pradesh, India.
