Post-doctoral Research Associate in Computational Chemistry, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences Heriot-Watt University -Institute of Chemical Sciences

Post-doctoral Research Associate in Computational Chemistry, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences Heriot-Watt University -Institute of Chemical Sciences

Salary: £29,541 – £33,230
An EPSRC-funded Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available in the group of Prof. Stuart Macgregor to work on the computational modelling of transition metal alkane s–complex. The project is in collaboration with Prof. Andrew Weller at the University of Oxford and builds on the ground-breaking synthesis and characterization of a stable alkane complex in the solid state (see Science 2012, 337, 1648).
The project will involve a range of computational techniques (density functional theory, atoms-in-molecules, natural bond orbital analysis) to study the formation, electronic structure and spectroscopic properties of molecular alkane-complexes. Protocols to assess stability in the extended solid state will also be developed.
Candidates should have, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in computational chemistry. In addition to a strong general background in computational chemistry, experience in the analysis of electronic structure and the use of a range of computational chemistry packages would be advantageous.
The starting salary will be in the range £29,541-£33,230 and the post will be available for two years.
Informal enquiries should be addressed to Prof. Stuart Macgregor, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, William Perkin Building, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, EH14 4AS, email:s.a.macgregor@hw.ac.uk; Website: http://cic.eps.hw.ac.uk/
