DFMPM is prepared from cardanol using standard methods. The Schiff base complexes Zr(IV) and Th(IV) of di a -formyl methoxy bis(3-pentadecenylphenyl)methane (DFMPM) and p-toluidine were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, electronic, infrared, spectral measurements, metal ion intake and antibacterial studies. The conductance measurements indicate that all the complexes are non-electrolytes. The results indicate that the metal complexes of Zr(IV) and Th(IV) are octa-coordinated and  have moderate antibacterial activity and also used for the removal of such ions from water.
